Sayin’ She’s A Stateswoman Don’t Make It So
A lot of words have been spoken on the subject of Sarah Palin as our Veep or, god forbid, as president. But none were more stupid than this rhetorical turd offered up by Sherri Shepherd, one of the hosts on ABC’s The View:
“You tell me what mother cannot come in and run the country after having five kids. I’m so excited about this … I believe she represents a regular American woman …”
Gee Sherri, does it occur that ‘regular Americans’ of either sex maybe shouldn’t be running the country? Look at what happened the last time a so-called ‘regular American’ took the helm. Or, have you been asleep for the last 7 years?
I’ve managed my family’s finances pretty well for 20 some years, but that doesn’t make me qualified to be the CEO of JP Morgan-Chase.
I manage to get a home cooked meal on the table most nights of the week, but that doesn’t qualify me to cook at Jean Georges in Manhattan.
Sarah Palin may have raised up a passel of well adjus—ok…let’s just say…kids, but that sure as sh*t don’t count as qualifications for the nation’s second highest office.

Um, doesn’t Congress, just to mention one august body, have over 500 children? Wonder Woman couldn’t handle all of them by herself, magic lasso or not.

Palin’s nomination is not for regular Americans, it’s for The Base. What I’m hearing from some talking heads on the left is that the Fundies love Palin, and they are getting energized. Whereas with another Veep such as Mittens or Rudy, a lot of theocrats would have stayed at home on ehhhlection day. What they’re saying is that with Palin, the race just got tighter.

Wiseline, that may be true, but there are going to be a lot of pissed off moderates. Remember, McLame is no fundy or even religious, and his initial supporters may not be, either. This choice may loose him that base.
Great post! I think the GOp is going down the tubes. Even Noonan and Murphy got caught off camera saying so.

Since she’s tried to stymie the investigation into her role in the Troopergate scandal, she certainly is qualified to be a Republican.

Palin is sick. McCain is sick. Maybe the day when the NEO CONS are exposed as the NEO NAZI’S they are, and tried at The Hague for crimes against humanity, people will finally wake up!

Mr_Blog, Helen… Right up there with Sherri Shepherds of the world are the talking heads that are insisting that Palin is intended to draw the female Clinton supporters. Hah! What a joke. Repel them, more likely.
Randal… Maybe Palin *IS* Wonder Woman. You know…star-spangled bustier and all that. Wouldn’t that be something?

Lew… She and her daughter both. I mean, which states have more teenage pregnancies per capita? Red states.
Mateo… Palin is mana from heaven! ;-)

Don’t underestimate the power of the “regular American” pitch. For some reason, people want to vote for someone who’s “just like me” – maybe because it feeds a fantasy that they could actually have been president, too, if only it wasn’t for .

Oops – looks like my “insert excuses here” got interpreted as an html tag because I used angle brackets around it.

Hey, Kvatch, I can twiddle my thumbs. Does that put me in line for the Presidency?
